INDUCTION FURNACE
In an induction furnace, steel scrap is heated, burning off impurities like dust, oil, grease, and rust. This combustion may be incomplete, releasing fumes containing soot, ash, iron oxide, alloy oxides, and traces of SO₂. The concentration of pollutants depends on the raw material type and heating intensity.
During melting, fumes are continuously generated and must be extracted immediately. This requires managing various operations, including material feeding, poking, slag removal, metal tapping and pouring, sampling, and furnace replacement.


Primary Fume Extraction System
This method involves positioning a suction hood as close as possible to the source of fume generation. By capturing fumes directly at the point of origin, this approach minimizes their dispersion into the surrounding environment.
It is typically used in processes where high concentrations of fumes are generated, such as melting, metal pouring, or slag removal. This system ensures efficient fume collection, reducing worker exposure and maintaining air quality within the facility.
Secondary Fume Extraction System
In this approach, the suction hood is placed at a distance from the fume generation source.
Secondary fume extraction is designed to manage residual fumes that are not captured by the primary system. It effectively captures any remaining emissions during processes such as slag removal and hot metal tapping from the furnace, which account for approximately 5-10% of a single melting cycle.

The choice between Primary and Secondary Fume Extraction depends on the end user’s operational requirements.
